It's on my mind

As you all may know, the name of this blog is Keep It Real Detroit. I am here to keep it real with each and every one of you. Today I am not here to talk about politics, crime, schools, city hall or any scandals. I am here to talk about love and respect. Today is Sunday February 15, 2009 and yes I am going to get a bit religious with you all. Sometimes I feel like I am not where I am suppose to be in life. Even though I have accomplished alot for a 26 year old, I am still reaching for a higher and much larger star. I know that if I work harder and strive farther I will reach the my goals and catch a few more along the way. But what if people you love try to tell you about your mistakes and don't respect the fact that you are trying. What if the people you love and trust try to tell you how you feel and think. Is that respect and love? I am not going to answer that, but I think that is something you could think about. No one is ever going to be that perfect person. It is not wise to compare people either. At some point the words that you say may hurt someones feelings. You have to do unto others as you want other to do unto you. That was on my mind Detroit. Remember that no matter who you are, when you pray to God, He hears you. Don't let anyone tell you that your prayer does not matter, because they do.

Stimulus Bill Passed


Hip Hip Hooray! Handing the new administration a big win, House Democrats passed President Barack Obama's $787 billion plan to resuscitate the economy on Friday despite a wall of Republican opposition.

The bill was approved 246-183 and sent to the Senate, where a vote was scheduled late Friday afternoon. That vote was to be held open for hours, waiting for Ohio Democrat Sherrod Brown, who was attending a memorial service for his mother and then flying back to cast the deciding vote.

Senate passage would meet a deadline of sending the bill to Obama before a congressional recess begins next week.

The 1,071 page, 8-inch-thick measure combines $281 billion in tax cuts for individuals and businesses with more than a half-trillion dollars in government spending. The money would go for infrastructure, health care and help for cash-starved state governments, among scores of programs. Seniors would get a $250 bonus Social Security check.

No Republican backed the measure, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs reacted by citing another number: "3.5 million jobs that we look forward to saving or creating."

Good News for DPS Workers

With all the talk about payless paydays, with this package passed, Dps can get funded. All of you may know that DPS has failed to pay their bills. The only people that have been getting paid are the staff. Bills have been left unpaid, vendors have been left unpaid. It has gotten to the point where the retirement fund, DTE, and DWSD has been seeking collections from the big DPS.

I am extremely excited because I am an DPS employee, I was worried that the children in my class would not be able to receive transporation this upcoming week. I can honestly say that I had faith in DPS. I do believe however, some people need to go and be replaced possibly jailed. The cookie jar was a little to sweet and you know how it is when you get cravings. I guess somebody didn't stop to think that their sticky fingers could somehow effect the education of these children. But who knows, they probable had the attitude "i gotta get mine and you gotta get yours".

Most DPS administrators don't believe that DPS is good enough for their families. See the families that live in the city, in the poorest neighborhoods are sending their children to DPS. DPS employees, city officials both elected and appointed are sending their children to charter schools and out of district schools.

A change was made in D.C. now a change need to be made in Detroit.

Monica Conyers vs. Kwame Kenyatta



Once again, Monica Conyers has been disrespectful to yet, another one of her colleagues. When will this woman learn. Now, from my understanding, President Conyers wanted to cut the budget of Councilmember Kenyatta. He did not respond the way she wanted him to, so she called him stupid. I am going to stop right here. Calling your colleague stupid is so immature. I remember children calling one another names back in second grade. I am a substitute, and I have an seven year old boy who calls his classmates "stupidy stupidy". Damn Monica, you're on the same level as an seven year old.

Back to the story, after Conyers called Kenyatta stupid, he asked her what she said. She went on to tell him that he needs to learn how to respect women. Stop right there. Monica, are you serious? I mean do you want men to bow down to you like you are some kind of queen? Reality check, YOU ARE NOT A QUEEN, YOU ARE A BULLY. Have Monica ever thought to think that she does not have any respect for men? Councilman Kenyatta is the only man on the council now, and before her target was then Council President Crockrel. Remember, she asked him that same question before calling him "Shrek". Another juvenile attempt.

To add insult to injury, she attacked him verbally by stating he is uneducated, deaf, and that he is a dead man walking. Okay maybe I am twisting her word, but this is what the freep is saying. "Kenyatta shot back that when he was with a woman, he would do so. That prompted Conyers to yell at Kenyatta that he was stupid, citing his lack of a college degree, to tell him he "can't hear" -- a dig at his hearing aid -- and to try to rub in his face rumors that Kenyatta has cancer".

Kenyatta is normally calm, cool, and collective. I was never a fan of his and I've always felt that he is just sitting on the council just like the rest of them. The only time he showed nerves is when the scandal occured with the Kilpatrick Administration. For him to say that Conyers is not a woman, he was wrong. According to the webster dictionary, woman:

Bottom line, these individuals has to go. Detroit is suffering, and these actors and actresses are dressing up in clown uniforms and putting on a show, that I don't want to see. What have this City come to? Like I said before, Vote Smart or Die Trying. Do you research on these people. Are they really for the City, or do they really need a job. More people are running because more employers laid them off. Don't let a bunch of irresponsible, money hungry, desperate individuals run Detroit again. You see where it got us.

Dave Bing For Mayor



Mayoral Candidate, Dave Bing, had a minor get together for the women coalition down at the Double Tree Hotel in Detroit. I was most surprise because I was unsure of who I wanted to vote for, until now. The set up was lovely and the individuals were extremely pleasant. He spoke for a brief moment (10-17 minutes) after he did a meet and greet. When he spoke, I felt a sense of sincerity. This man told me that he was not a politician, and that he never wanted to become one. Instead he is a business man who main concern is the City of Detroit. As a citizen of Detroit, I can respect that. In the past he mention working for free. Many people felt that was impossible and that if he works for free we get what we pay for. Regardless if he chooses to keep the salary or use it towards the City, taxpayers will pay. But how many other candidates are willing to work for free?

Dave Bing is a caring man. He cares for the well being of the citizens in Detroit. He wants to see this City turn right side up. Detroit need someone who is willing to do the Deed instead of making Detroit Bleed. Kilpatrick resigned in October 2008, January 2009 Mayor Cockrel is already talking about layoff, pay cuts, and selling of Detroit jewels. If we continue with that type of administration we are looking at Cockrel (kilpatrick) Administration in the making (again). In my opinion, and I am entitled to it, Crockrel is a power hog-control freak who will get his way and have the last say by any means necessary. If this administration say in office, Detroit will have two problems.
#1. Hot Headed Mayor
#2. Wasted money on an already near bankrupt City for a special election.

Freeman Hendricks is NOT READY (once again). The man is a nervous wreck and he is not a good speaker. Maybe he is good at being second in command, but a leader, NO. Everyone else, don't know, don't care, and that is because they have not introduced themselves or took the time to sell themselves. Oh let me take that back Nick Hood and Coleman Young................... (enough said).......

Detroit, I urge you to be careful at the polls. Detroit is hurting, we are on life support. If you choose the wrong candidate, the plug will get pulled and Detroit WILL DIE. My slogan is Vote Smart or Die Trying. You will get one or the other, you be the judge.

Frozen Body Inside DPS Warehouse



I was sadden by the story that broke last week of a person body found frozen in an abandoned DPS Warehouse near downtown Detroit. The victim was 56-year-old Johnnie Redding, pictured above



Now DPD are taking some major heat from the fact they didn't find the body in record time. My hearts goes out to the family of Mr. Redding but what the heck was he doing in that building? I mean was he homeless? Was he lost? Was he hungry? Was he looking for scrap metal???? This was really weird, because his shoes was decent and his socks was clean

(unlike a homeless person trying to make end meets on a day to day basis)
But if you look closely you will find a pillow.

This is such a sad story and I am so confused. DPD need to beef it up and do everything they can to respond on time all the time. I can be the first to admit, they are not always there when you call and never on time.

Empower mayor to aid schools, Granholm says

Is she out of her mind? Detroit is already in bad shape and DPS is in even worse shape. Both needs to lay people off and Governor Granholm wants to put more pressure on the Mayor. Now if the City of Detroit was in good standing, then I could understand, but at this stage NO NO NO NOOOOOOO!(Screaming)

We have too many under qualified individuals running things and making major decisions. Michiganders and especially Detroiters, need to do their homework and check it over before they turn it in. Unlike Chicago, New York City and Washington, they are not the worst City to reside in right now. Michigan is the last place people would settle in and move their families, not gonna happen. I hope that does not happen because if it do poor mayor elect. Here is the article from the Free Press....

Governor Granholm said today she wants to see Detroit’s new mayor given a strong hand in running what she called Detroit’s “broken” school system, similar to mayors in Chicago, New York City and Washington, D.C.

And she said she would back whatever Lansing could do to make it happen.


“I’d like to empower the citizens to empower the mayor,” she said. Granholm said she’s privately discussed the question with mayoral candidates. Some have publicly expressed interest in giving the mayor some authority over Detroit’s schools.


“The quality of life is so tied to education in the city that having a mayor that has a commitment to making education work in the city is very important to the citizens,” she said.


In an interview with the Free Press editorial board, Granholm also said she does not favor a plan by the Michigan Education Association – the state’s largest teachers union – to entice thousands of teachers into retirement by boosting their monthly pension benefits with a sweetener. She said the plan would place too large a strain on the state teacher retirement system.


Instead, Granholm said, she would consider paying teachers eligible for retirement a onetime bonus to retire. She said she’d also like to see school districts offer bonuses to older teachers in some areas such as math to stay on the job instead of retire.


The MEA says the mass retirements would greatly reduce costs for school districts, which would fill those jobs with younger teachers at much lower pay.


A day after her State of the State address in Lansing, Granholm said she also will ask state employees to “make sacrifices” to help avert a budget crisis, but did not say how. She said she would not take away state health benefits from retired state workers because ”they were made a promise” of those benefits upon retirement.


We will see in the near future what will be done. So for now, Keep It Real Detroit!

Kilpatricks Living Large In The South

Once again it's all about the Kilpatricks. The ex-mayor is free from spending 99 days in jail and now his family have a permenant house in one of the wealthiest sectors in Texas. Now they are up in the big league and ain't no turning back. Different people have different opinions about the situation but is it truly a big deal? Back in October the ex-mayor was ordered to pay $1 million in restitution. Over the course of the years as mayor, Kilpatrick was paid $1.1 million in salary by the tax payers in Detroit.

I was a big supporter of the Kilpatrick administration, however, right is right and wrong is wrong. Would I have handled it better? Hell Yes. Would I have lied? Hell No. I am the first to say that he handled the situation extremely wrong. The demon whose head that was sticking out was the spirit of greed. Most of us have an evil spirit that lurks our bodies but are we the first to admit it? I don't think so, but we are the first to cast stones on other.

Maybe this situation will make him a better person. Maybe he has learned from his mistakes and now he will be able to live his life as a normal, faithful husband in Texas. I mean admit it, no one will welcome him here in Metro Detroit. The man and his family would have to sit in the house and be reminded everyday of the mistakes, infidelity, corruption, and lives they once lived and destroyed just a few years ago. The Man that was once the Leader of a major City is now the scum of the earth in some people eyes.

Mr. Kilpatrick has a big bill to pay, a family to take care of, and legal issues so I believe that the man needs and deserve a job. Now if anyone is upset about the length of time he spent in the slammer, take that up with prosecutor Kym Worthy, she made the decision not him. Now, he did make the decison to commit more than a few crimes but that's politics I guess.

I am a faithful, dedicated and proud Christian and according to the Holy Bible King James Version we have to be able to forgive others so that the Father will forgive you. What does the Bible say about Forgiveness of Sins?

Sin is disobedience to God's commandments, either by doing what is forbidden or failing to do what is required. (See the Ten Commandments , the Greatest Commandments of Jesus, Mark 7:20-23, Galatians 5:19-26). In the Bible, sin is a serious evil that disrupts our relationship with God (Matthew 5:29-30, Mark 9:42-48, Romans 8:7-8, Romans 6:23).


Availability of Forgiveness

The good news is that, no matter how serious the sin, God is always seeking us out and is willing to forgive and forget our sins and give us a fresh start. As long as we live, it is never too late to ask for forgiveness and make a new start!

So Jesus used this illustration: "If you had one hundred sheep, and one of them strayed away and was lost in the wilderness, wouldn't you leave the ninety-nine others to go and search for the lost one until you found it? And then you would joyfully carry it home on your shoulders. When you arrived, you would call together your friends and neighbors to rejoice with you because your lost sheep was found. In the same way, heaven will be happier over one lost sinner who returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven't strayed away! (NLT, Luke 15:3-7)

When we have sinned, we can ask God for forgiveness, as in the Lord's Prayer:

and forgive us our sins, just as we have forgiven those who have sinned against us. (TLB, Matthew 6:12)

Conditions of Forgiveness

Although God is always ready and willing to forgive us, He requires two things of us as conditions of forgiveness: repentance and forgiveness of others.

1) Repentance. Repentance means a sincere resolve to turn away from sin and toward God.

From that time on Jesus began to preach, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near." (NIV, Matthew 4:17)

If our sin has harmed another person, we should try to make amends for the wrong done (Luke 19:8-10). If we have tried to hide our sin, we should confess it (Matthew 3:1-6, Matthew 18:15-18, Acts 19:18, James 5:16-17). True repentance involves sorrow for acts of sin and leads to a fundamental change in attitude. We are not perfect and may fail in our attempt to avoid sin. In that case God is always willing for us to start over and make another attempt. However, if we ask for forgiveness with the intention of sinning again, we have not really repented.

2) Forgiveness of others. Jesus said we must be willing to forgive people who sin against us:

If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins. (NLT, Matthew 6:14-15)

There should be no limit to our willingness to forgive others (Luke 17:3-4). We should have a forgiving spirit even if the offender does not repent and ask for forgiveness (Mark 11:25). We damage our relationship with God and harm ourselves if we stay angry or hold a grudge (Matthew 5:21-24).

The Unpardonable Sin

Jesus said blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is an unpardonable sin:

I tell you the truth, all the sins and blasphemies of men will be forgiven them. But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; he is guilty of an eternal sin. (NIV, Mark 3:28-29)

The nature of this sin has been the subject of much debate. The most common interpretation is that Jesus was referring specifically to the sin of the teachers of the law (Mark 3:22-30) who said Jesus was possessed by demons and had an evil spirit. The total spiritual blindness of those who mistook the work of Jesus for the work of Satan put them beyond hope of repentance, faith and forgiveness.

Many people worry about committing the unpardonable sin accidentally or in a moment of weakness, but most Bible experts say there is no need for such worry. It is not that any sin is beyond the power of God's grace. The sin of the teachers of the law was not forgiven because their own stubborn perversion of the truth and hardness of heart prevented them from repenting. Those people who are concerned enough to worry about their sins are not in danger of committing an unpardonable sin.

Process of Forgiveness

Nearly all Christians agree that repentance and forgiveness of others are key elements of forgiveness, and that forgiveness comes from God. However, there are some doctrinal differences about the process of forgiveness.

The Catholic doctrine. Jesus had the power to forgive sins (Matthew 9:2, Luke 5:20). Jesus granted that authority also to His apostles (Matthew 16:18-19, Matthew 18:18, John 20:22-23). In Catholic doctrine that authority is now vested in the Church through the bishops as successors of the apostles. The Church exercises that authority to forgive sins, through its bishops and priests, in the sacrament of Reconciliation (also known as confession or the sacrament of Penance). A sinner confesses his or her sins to the priest who assigns a penance (often some prayers to recite) and grants forgiveness and reconciliation with the Church "in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit." The sacrament of Reconciliation is practiced in Catholic and Orthodox churches, although some other Christian churches also have rites of individual confession.

The Protestant doctrine. Severe penances, such as fasts, pilgrimages and floggings, were often imposed in early Church history. In the Middle Ages, the Roman Church fell into the corrupt practice of selling "indulgences" to reduce the severity of such penances in exchange for monetary contributions to the Church. This was a major factor leading to the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century. Protestants rejected the Roman Catholic Church's sacrament of Penance, its claims of apostolic succession, and its authority to forgive sins (1 Timothy 2:5). Authority on doctrine was placed in "Scripture alone" rather than in the Church. For most Protestants, the Church is instrumental in bringing people to repentance, but the power to forgive sins belongs to God and Christ alone.

In order for Detroit to overcome this tragic ordeal and move on, we need to forgive the man whom we thought we could trust. Life is a school, we learn something new everyday. I hope now that more people have learned the lesson to treat their votes with care and elect those who will benefit and spend our hard earn tax dollars wisely. Continue to Keep it Real Detroit!

I said it in 07

I said it in 07 and look it's 09, I guess someone read my blog. For those of you who don't know what I am talking about, on October 1, 2007 after that dreadful state meeting, our lovely representatives chose to raise taxes to fix our "deficit". Well it's now February 3, 2009 and our lovely Governor Jennifer Granholm, gave her seventh State of the State Address. Guess what was apart of her plan? "As expected, Granholm proposed an end to the Michigan State Fair, a freeze on tuition rates, elimination of 10 state departments, a 10 percent pay cut for elected state officials etc... In October 1, 2007 I said "I wrote each Legislature and I told them that I thought a small tax increase would be understandable. However, a reduction by 10% to the salaries would be a good look for Michigan as well". Thank you, Thank you Thank you.

Why does the tax payers have to suffer? The Governor said that Michiganders will have to see the worse before we can see the better... I don't think that is right but she's the boss. Michigan as a whole is in bad shape but I am particularly concerned about Detroit. The City is failing, the schools are failing and houses are empty all over. What can we do to change the situation that we are in today? I must say that I do not have all the answers to everything, but I sure can place in my bets.

The good news is, Detroiters are now noticing the bad seeds and hopefully we will now plant new and improved seeds in the City of Detroit. I say that they all need to go, but that is just my opinion. I was driving downtown Detroit and I could not help but notice the lack of excitement it has. I mean what is our current Mayor doing? I will not get so much into that, because this was just an "I told you so" edition.
